The path to draining the swamp is a circuitous one but, in my mind, it’s hard to argue where things are headed. They are not headed towards confrontation with Iran but actually the opposite. The most rabidly anti-Iranian segment of the Saudi Royal house is impoverished and imprisoned. CNN will be sold and go out of business to allow for the Time-Warner/AT&T merger. Jeff Zucker is out. Add another scalp to Steve Bannon’s belt along with Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and so many to come. Will the vestiges of the neoconservative establishment in the U.S. and Israel continue to sabre-rattle and try to undermine what is happening? Yes.
They’ve been doing that since the day Trump was elected just over a year ago, but it hasn’t stopped the momentum. Why? Because Putin was on the job outmaneuvering them at every turn. Trump made a deal with the neocons back in August to cede them control of foreign policy and, in effect, outsourced cleaning up the Middle East to Putin. But, predictably they also didn’t follow through with their end of the bargain. Trump learned, like Putin did, the John McCain’s of the world don’t keep to their deals. They are ‘not agreement capable.’ And, as such, since the last failure to repeal Obamacare Trump has gone after every pillar of support these people had. It will end with Hillary Clinton’s indictment. But in the meantime it will look like the world is on the brink of world war.
Yeah, this was not obviously going to happen?! Kaepernick is no idiot, of course he’s going to call them out, what he’s got to lose?!
In a significant escalation in the ongoing NFL feud, which one month ago was pushed into overdrive following Trump’s slamming of “anthem kneelers”, and which now threatens to set players against team owners, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Houston Texans owner Bob McNair will be deposed and asked to turn over all cellphone records and emails in relation to the Colin Kaepernick collusion case against the NFL, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports quoting a league source.
Other owners as well as team and league officials also will be deposed in relation to the case, ESPN reports with ABC News adding that other owners to be deposed include the Seattle Seahawks’ Paul Allen and the San Francisco 49ers’ Jed York. The owners were reportedly selected for depositions based on their public statements about either Kaepernick or sideline protests during the national anthem.
As reported last month, Kaepernick’s attorney, Mark Geragos, said that the free-agent quarterback had filed a grievance under the collective bargaining agreement alleging collusion against signing him to an NFL contract.
The filing, which demands an arbitration hearing on the matter, says the NFL and its owners “have colluded to deprive Mr. Kaepernick of employment rights in retaliation for Mr. Kaepernick’s leadership and advocacy for equality and social justice and his bringing awareness to peculiar institutions still undermining racial equality in the United States.”
Funny, Dr. D., A Greek here in Athens was saying yesterday that Trump should halt delivery of the F35 fighter jets to Turkey, especially given that Greece only has F16s. I told him not to worry, the new planes don’t fly.

Chuck, so they’re the same -more or less-, only Trump won his battle with the apparatus and Bernie lost his. Ergo, Trump purges the GOP and the apparatus purges the DNC. I would have liked Bernie, but that would not have been some glorious solution, the problem is much deeper.

And now Podesta is stepping down from his firm. The one Manafort was working for in the period the indictment covers. Yeah, that’s the Dem connected Podesta firm. Swamp.
From what i’ve seen so far, I’d say Papadopoulos is a plant. Nobody in the campaign wanted a piece of him, but he just kept on coming. Stinks.

People used to buy stocks because they believed a company had value, ideas, a future. That is completely gone. Now stocks are bought because they think the Fed will keep propping up markets no matter what. But the Fed can’t, and won’t do that forever. And then what is Apple really worth, or Google, Uber? We’re going to find out.Fro that matter, what is anybody’s home really worth once QE falters?I would like our regulars to comment on the thread about DiEM 25. I find your point hard to answer, and at the same time very valid. But I didn’t make things what they are. I’m going to have to think this over.
What’s happening is you’re asking me to solve YOUR problem, and that is not right. YOU allow people to pose as somehow representing your movement. And then blame it on me. That makes very little sense.
If you have to explain to me, who has run this, as you rightly remark, great site for 10+ years, that DiEM25’s forum is somehow separate from DiEM25, then what are other people going to understand?

Diablo, that first link is an article of mine from Dec 2016. How did you get that instead of that Dross thing? I started reading his reply, but it looks like a whole lot of big words, few of which really address what I said, and I’m writing. Maybe later. A friend wants to set up a meeting of an English language group here in Athens to discuss the whole thing. But I am not really that interested in DiEM25. We’ll see.
I can see in our visitor numbers today that a bot is going through TAE from A to Z . Lots of hits. Unfortunately, that doesn’t show up in our ads revenue.

And as for the discussion the other day about whether I should do the daily Debt Rattles or not, first: this is how TAE started 10 years ago, so how it would go against Nicole’s, what was that again, ‘vision’?!, in some way, I don’t know.
I do realize that the Debt Rattles take a lot of my most productive hours, early morning ones, but they also give me a great rhythm. It’s a toss-up. One thing that’s clear is that much more than 10 years ago TAE needs to ‘fight’ for its place in the big bad world of ‘finance and other crises’, and Debt Rattles play a role in that.
When we started in 2007, Nicole and I were living in the same (farm)house, and we could sync what we were doing and thinking all the time. Now we live half a world apart. But we still see things the same way, as far as I can see. Not that we’re the same person, but then that would not have led to interesting talks to begin with.
I miss my 24/7 talks with Nicole badly. We feed off each other wonderfully, since we’re from completely different backgrounds. It worked great while it did. But nothing lasts forever.
So anyway, I’l keep doing what I do, including the Debt Rattles, until I get sick of them, and that may come any moment but hasn’t yet. And Nicole will keep doing what she thinks is most important in her life.

I hope all permaculture etc. people will do the same. Wish I had a way to organize this better. But at least we have a solid contact on the ground. (Re-)planting will be a huge part of getting things back to ”normal”.
Absolutely Ken. but that doesn’t mean he’s left Puerto Rico and went golfing, or that the US wasn’t there under his command. People’s opinions are being shaped by nonsense too much. By now, that’s what it is. You can’t un-echo the chambers anymore. Still, it would be good to realize that whatever happens, there’s a whole platoon of formerly journalists ready to blame it on Trump.
Thing is: could they have been there earlier? We don’t know. Everything’s gone there. Could more goods have been sent in? The reports say they’re already overstocked. Could more people have been sent in? Well, probably, but we have no clue as to how efficient that would have been. For one thing, where would they be based? It sounds good in the echo chamber, but it has no solid ground.
Looks to me like DoD and FEAM are doing a good job. How much of that is Trump, we don’t know. We do know he has good reasons to NOT f*ck this up.
I have big problem with the constant negativity. It sounds hollow.

Haven’t read the article, zerosum, but from what I’ve seen, Trump already waived the Jones Act right after Maria struck, and after much protest from shippers now decided to waive it yet again. DOesn’t sound like something you can put on his plate. Shouldn’t be his anyway, Congress could have done this from the get-go.

Party on, that Canada thing is as scary as it is poorly written. “For each $1.00 the economy grew in this 1 year period the total debt outstanding increased by $5.48.”
Quite possible that China wants all escape channels shut, either because of the Party Congress where Xi must look like Great Leader, or because they’re planning a big crackdown (they may know the economy is really not doing well, i.e. debt levels). Or both.
Bitcoin is now below $3000. China regulator demanded all exchanges stop at the end of today, not Oct 1 as first reported. I still think there are too many puzzles surrounding crypto. For now, bitcoin feels more like Netscape, certainly not like gold (bad comparison in my view). The technology will survive and grow, but the tokens may not.
Max is a smart cookie. He just gets carried away at times. His call to buy buy buy silver a few years back didn’t really go anywhere (either). But Nicole and I had some good times with them a few years ago.

America can’t pay back its debts already, and the storms will make it impossible to keep hiding that simple fact. By adding more debt as the only way out.

Well, yeah, sort of. But it’ll take a trillion bucks just to repair the damage, and that will do very little towards upgrading infrastructure. And Washington won’t spend that trillion, if only because it doesn’t have it. Individuals and companies will have to spend on repairs, but it won’t be a net positive, it’ll just be shifted from other spending, and they have no spending money available to start with. If Irma hits Florida the way it’s predicted, the cost will be so high they’ll make sure we’ll never hear the number. At SwissRe and Munich Re calculators are doing overtime. They don’t have that kind of money either. But the system needs re-insurers.

As we’ve written all the time, the crux/clincher is in dollar-denominated debt outside of the US. People, companies, governments who hold that debt will need dollars to pay it off. And when margin calls come, and/or interest rates rise, they will all want those dollars. All fiat currencies are under pressure, if not under threat, but all this means it won’t be the first to go.

I guess we all know the stories about the gay penguins etc., but still. In the end life is all about hormones. You don’t mate, you’re dead. Which brings up even more thoughts about black swans and economics, or even life in general. Unexpected, or rather unexpectable, events not only come in pairs, they need to mate. Hmmm…
