Thanks for sharing your music, Michael. And for telling your story. A significant point – that your process was so deep it required “recovery time”. It’s easy to take this aspect of RENEWAL for granted when total life-changing shifting is at hand. Allowing it to unfold is a gift to yourself.
I agree with VP that time is short. If RENEWAL is practiced in the company of dear friends and family, the timeline can be enhanced and shortened. Working TOGETHER is the key.
For those of us (me included) who have had similar life-altering experiences (VP has shared his), we are never the same.
In the meantime, stay positive and in the PRESENT. That is something (@ DBS) we can control and do.
May we all have the opportunity to one day “Lay down our head by a sweet riverbed.”

WES – good advice as always. To “age in place” is the best choice but not always possible; care-giver quality/availability and finances may make this difficult.
As for the closed loop, wood-fired outdoor furnace (heat transfer H2O to my boiler to radiant floor heat system), it worked like a champ! It took awhile to fine tune the process and get the right wood mix/volume for optimum performance. Saved on the propane. Next year will be the big test and $$$ savings. Will get her fired up in late October/early November. Thanks for asking.

Consider the hidden potential here. “With humanity” deserves exploration, contemplation, and understanding. What does it mean/how to BE “with humanity”?
Is it what happens when we come together over a personal experience post (à la Phoenix), a Calvin cartoon strip, an Eckhart Tolle quote, an animal video, a Beatles song, or artwork selection?
I propose that “with humanity” is a key component of your existence and resistance, your most powerful tool. It is everything – all you have and all you need. If you want it.
It is the one thing YOU can implement with/in every thought, word, and deed. “With humanity” is your LOVE in action. Freedom will surely follow.

Their “playbook” is always the same. Can’t you see-track/feel-sense the extreme efforts being deployed in creating/generating, FORCING a new reality?
The left/Dems have lost control; they thought they were promoting inclusion! Haha. It was co-opted long ago – and warped into an array of woke craziness. The shove it in-your-face trans thing (Budweiser) is a red line – and the responses are telling.
The left/Dems did not reach this level of insanity organically. It was forced by the manipulations of TPTB. Most left/Dems DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT HAS HIT THEM! Since they are in a trance induced by TPTB, they have become powerless to fight it – all they can do is keep owning it.
I’m not defending the left/Dems. Am just pointing to the root cause of the chaos. This goes way beyond the usual suspects on the left or right – we can’t let the real enemy stay hidden behind them.
Kunstler’s Monday post lays all things woke on the left/Dems. In this passionate quest he’s lost sight of reality. We have been captured by the same evil, Jim. Why not pull together and get the real devil out into the fight/light?

It is my understanding (through experience) that there are many Paths to Truth, any road will take you there. To choose one and BE PRESENT with it in the experience of daily living – in thought/word/deed, produces awareness/understanding/knowledge/truth.
The Destiny of Disenchantment is death, making room for Enchantment. Like all cycles, recognition of where you’re/we’re at is helpful. This quote from the article holds WISDOM in weathering the storm.
“Most of us, I hope, recognize that one of the basic tests of personal maturity is the recognition that we will all die someday, after something like the ordinary human lifespan, and our hopes and dreams and decisions about the future need to take that hard but inescapable reality into account. Societies that recognize the equally hard and inescapable realities of decline and fall can make adjustments and preparations that can cushion the descent and simplify the rebirth on the far side of the process—a mastery of that way of thinking, guided by a richly complex understanding of time…”

@Ilargi – on the subject of traveling clots. We have a beloved gentleman here (in his 60’s, works for the State of CA) whose clot (unknown to him) caused a heart attack event. As he fell to the ground he full-body slammed a coffee table. He was air-lifted off the mountain to a big city hospital for heart surgery. The surgeon discovered and removed the clot which was one of those long stringy ones, he saved it and showed it to him. The Dr. also noted that the clot was likely dislodged by the fall and the blood flow to his heart resumed. Not sure what happened next…E.g. did anyone ask WHY this clot developed? Crazy!
Nick appears to be an Aussie Shepherd. They know a million ways to get you outside. I have one such animal – and she is always on the case. Heading out into the 15 inches of snow for the 5th time today yaaaah!

@ jb-hb: playing the unclean card is another effective route. “Dirty hippies” comes to mind. And yes there was a revulsion created/generated over the cleanliness/sanitary impact of the Occupy camps – which took the focus off the groups real purpose. Occupy was my first direct experience with the manipulation of TPTB in having them completely occupy our Occupy movement (I was involved in supplying the camps with food/shelter/clothes/blankets/technology/sanitary products) (it was personal – lost my house in 2009, was motivated).
Occupy was the last peaceful movement? Seems quaint that they removed us on being a sanitary nuisance. Almost nobody objected to the complete destruction of our camps.

Our time here is precious. All of it.
Inner Wisdom is a mostly untapped, unexplored resource. It is not the same as hope and faith. It appears that we are born with it; access requires discernment/practice/commitment to discover/uncover it – and to apply this Wisdom in daily life/living. Perhaps this is the engine of creativity/ingenuity; if we bring Inner Wisdom to light, what is possible?
This creation is in constant motion; everything under the sun is in one state of change or another – be it birth, growth, decay, death. The cycle of life is what it is, it is here and now. We can’t escape the impact yet we can control our response (if you want it).
Some say you must go/get BEYOND the creation (the body/mind (ego)/emotions (desires and attachments) to access Inner Wisdom. Sometimes Inner Wisdom breaks through in whispers or shouts. In words or not. What do you say?
Be Here Now = The Balance. It is momentary for most and permanent for few.
What was your reaction to today’s art selection? Did you smell bread baking and then move into The Future to take a bite of that crispy loaf? Did the open space on the table invite you add a glass of red wine, grapes, and cheese? Or were you pulled outside to the dark night and stars? Or???

Hi WES. Good observations and questions. My take:
This life is both…real and unreal.
When we live in the past (by re-living memories) or in the future (by dreaming/imagining) we are living in a dream/unreal state. The PRESENT is real. Living life fully present is the opportunity of this life.
Many of us (me included) bounce around. PRESENCE takes practice – awareness, dedication (Heart), and compassion are essential to cultivate/maintain this state of reality. Joy, Peace, and LOVE live here.

If you missed Dr. D’s referral/reference to the Desiderata poem (Max Ehrmann), it is worth reviewing. I see/hear much of the science of Yoga in the 8 verses. It is a joy to find such treasure:

The John Waterhouse Diogenes 1882 is lovely. The artist’s treatment of the pavers/stones and the women’s garments are a remarkable accomplishment. I appreciate the “flow”of ladies cascading down/up the steps. His subject, Diogenes, a Greek Cynic philosopher best known for holding a lantern (or candle) to the faces of the citizens of Athens claiming he was searching for an honest man – may have inspired the musings of tboc. What would it be like living in that corner nest, making philosophy (belief, and the sharing thereof) the centerpiece of existence?
@tboc – thank you. In Yoga philosophy (The Bhagavad Gita is a good example) it is framed as seeing God in All. To arrive/live in that awareness is to go beyond the the play of opposites of embodiment.

On very limited time here….Have been wanting to share this story since the Damar Hamlin “event”. Maybe it offers insight?
There is a 60-ish man here in town who works for the State of CA and was vaxxed as per the mandate. Mid year 2022 he had an “event” that caused him to fall, slamming full-force on to a table and breaking 6 ribs. The local paramedics took him down the mountain to the hospital. The doctor/surgeon ended up finding a (surprise) massive blockage and removed a long, dual-branched clot from his heart. The doctor told him that his life was saved by the fall – as it dislodged the clot long enough to get things moving again.
Could the hit to Damar have been something similar?
The rains and wind resulted in a 24 hour power outage. A great opportunity to see how prepared/unprepared I am for a winter disruption. Am certain that the tolerance/breaking point is far shorter than most/many imagine!
There is great benefit to reclaiming/regaining positive perspective after processing what’s real.

What if the daily art went away, would this site be the same to/for you? I admit, I like it, look forward to it, and am attached to it being there. What if no more animal videos or cartoons? The soup kitchen updates deepen our connection with each other (if we want it) and provide a generous serving of hope and possibility. Everything in the middle is what fuels the daily gathering – powerful stuff, overwhelming at times – yet essential..
Same with the comments/commenters. They have a place here. Plus our host seems to let things flow with little interference – which makes time spent all the more potent.

Bold post with interesting/fresh framing from Polemos last eve. This line of reasoning on the “great work of rebuilding themselves/ourselves” and “own your karma” deserves further discussion.
“All that liquid milked or squeezed from their assets, given to the same people now clotting away with poor choices, won’t change that, won’t heal them, won’t ease their suffering, but might prolong it, might further blind and hobble them, will further prevent them from the great work of rebuilding themselves into better people. They are not children, nor have they chosen wise gods. They have to own their karma. In living my life, I have daily to own mine and embrace the justice of what I chose, over lifetimes of refusing to learn from this indifferent merry-go-round: genuine love is genuine disentanglement from coercing an end.”
Owning my karma is my life…daily living/experience informs me that genuine LOVE exists/lives in the PRESENT moment – where “the rising sun” and “play of cats”, is found (the road to Oasis anyone?).
Disentanglement with the past or future – is the process/action of owning karma. This process of disentanglement is on-going, daily. You look at the results, the impact you are having on self and others. The instruments of karma – mind (memories and dreams), Heart (emotions and feelings), and hands (actions and inaction) come into play. You sort it out by using the same instruments.
In the end, we all do what we do, don’t we?

Appreciate your post. I also experience a form of “fatigue” from negative events in motion everywhere. Don’t want to run or hide from the truth of what’s happening, just acceptance and the ability to move on/through gently would be nice. Oasis anyone?
My small town pop. 3,500 was also rocked by a tragic event 2 weeks ago. An young man (born and raised up here) with a traumatic brain injury (from his youth) and unstable mental capability took the lives of 2 (also locals) and himself. Sad and tragic. The shooter struggled and his struggle was known; he slipped through the cracks. Hard to do in a small town like this. Perhaps his family was fatigued from their inability to reach/help their brother/son?
Very much appreciate your remedy: “Be grateful for health, friends, pets, being safe and warm, for now.”
Grateful for every little thing….since the “oasis” is in the Heart, your act of being grateful – when practiced/lived with LOVE – makes oasis possible/accessible.

Be grateful, hit the streets with a giant soup pot (or find the people with a giant soup pot and put something in it), hug the dog (and or cat) on your bed, cozy up the cabin/build some mighty fine shelves/remember to pause – to watch a pair of moose, go to the garden and dig in the dirt with your hands, plant flowers, imagine/dream sharing a bottle of fine red wine with oxy, sing Phoenix style + hang at home with your kids, sing and hang with your kids at home, make a casserole/grab a hammer or garden tool and head over to Dr John Days homestead to cheer on the avocados, decorate for Christmas and channel Father/Mother Christmas, pull one of mom’s old recipes and make it, if the art moves you in any direction – say something, dance around the house, share inspiring quotes/thoughts/rhymes, make us laugh NY style, zero in on sumething, keep the stats/facts/summaries coming – they keep us honest and smart. VP/Gary call home.
Yes, no end to the possibilities. Oh and guys, promise you won’t wear those super-thin PJ bottoms out to the store and we gals will try to keep our transparent yoga pants at home or under a tunic top.

Hi Michael Reid.
Just checking to be sure that you have a clear protocol for that trap door to your basement. For example: when you leave it wide open, you do “x” upstairs so as to flag anyone up there to watch for/be aware of the opening.
I only say this because I fell 9 1/2 feet to the ground below (split open my head on the concrete stairs) in the old 1890’s farmhouse gallery building where I work. It was not a pleasant experience!
I made my entry at high speed spinning furiously like a top in a horizontal position. Moments before was simply walking briskly down a corridor to retrieve a document. The heating/ac contractor on-site had left the door propped open with zero warning – no sawhorse, caution tape, no cones.
Anyway, everyone (including the doctors) could not figure out how I could survive such an fall with minimal injuries. The PTSD was the worst part and a skilled acupuncture practitioner up here helped dissolve the memories/impact. No concussion. Only a dent in my leg where the tendon snapped and left a “hole”.
Would not want you or anyone else in your circle to experience the same.
Perhaps those of you who grew up in and or around old buildings with trap door basements have a “code”/protocol for flagging an open doorway? I never learned one.

All 1,600 pounds of her is snugly nested on a custom pad. The guys have the trench from the unit to the house dug and the double wide insulated PEX line and electrical are laid inside it – but not yet buried. A beautiful pen and ink piece – Rembrandt van Rijn Self portrait with tousled hair 1629. I always look at self-portraits as an artist’s “study”. A very personal work in progress, a progression, as the lineup of self-portraits over the years is revealing. They (the portraits) become a “study” for the viewer if you want it. He did this one at 23 years of age. Perhaps coming to terms with his portly physique? Cat lovers may find more tracks here; intentional or not, they are fun + intriguing.
Today’s Calvin is a gem. Frame 3 is the NOW that Eckhart Tolle so brilliantly advocates for. It is the center, a place of peace, balance. Frame 4 shows how we surrender the center, losing the joy of the present moment as our minds/ego pull us away into the future (teevee/social media = sugar). Oh how to stay centered? How to integrate the essential essence of pure presence (frame 3) in daily living?

“Head Girl” is the perfect name for her because she does not use her head (mind, intellect) to counter-balance the overactive feeling and doing aspects of her personality.
Corporate America (in the late 80’s) used to love her as she would produce stellar results (perform above all expectations), build inspired/winning teams, recruit good people, and consistently beat quotas and other milestones. She was a champion of her ideas because seeing/knowing/feeling the future were available to her and implementing plans was her strength – she always new the best way forward! High standards and expectations (for her to meet/exceed) were the wind beneath her wings (hahaha).
The rift arose when she wanted access to the C-suite during the TQM and leveraged buyout days. TQM had potential for positive change but the C-suite’s heart was never truly in it. The LBO’ s – the destruction of productivity, the waste and insanity of it all was too much. This Head Girl could not keep her mouth shut. In the end, she just had to let it go – the first of many wake-up calls. More importantly, the blossoming entrepreneurial world was calling.
The very few who stayed in Corporate America sacrificed their values and voices to stay, many of them remained in key support positions. I am certain that PC’s and even “causal Friday” killed a key aspect of the way we worked and opened new doors; eventually working outside the office became a thing. But like everything else, Corporations only did what was best for themselves even tho it might have looked like “liberty” from an employees perspective.
Head Girl’s power today is due to social media and the tools that give her a voice. Thank you Mr. House for the additional articles arising from the Amnesty ashes. This is getting interesting. May the momentum continue!

Regardless of the reason (accidental release, f-up, intentional release), it should be considered a “canary” event – for what lies ahead. In Opposite-Land – there is no amnesty in the amnesty article; this presents a dangerous landscape for the real priority targets.
Sorry to hear of your challenges finding decent work. Being very good at what you do is rarely valued and or appreciated at this time, so perhaps re-prioritizing expectations relative to reality would be the right exercise?

Recently I have been contemplating HATE/HATERS with new focus. Why have they emerged in such large numbers? How did they get there? Note: I am not referring to TPTB at the very top, they are in a league of their own. Am thinking about those everyday former friends and associates who went off the cliff.
I think you may have answered that question for me with this:
“Society has a duty & a moral/spiritual obligation to protect the innocent from liars, cheats, thieves, murderers & rapists (this also includes moneychangers) ~ When a society FAILS to do so, it is by definition EVIL.”
How convenient to shift blame from the social contract directly to your “brothers and sisters”. Since we are all responsible for society, the breaking of this “agreement” may go un-noticed and un-attended for years. Somehow we lost our place, our ROLE and responsibility in shepherding the way forward. The de-humanization of everything clearly enables HATE and makes it real. In fact, de-humanization creates/delivers an environment where only hate can survive. TPTB are counting on it to continue!
The counterbalance is the Golden Rule. It brings HUMANITY back into focus. It starts with the individual, it is a bottom up movement, it is easy to understand and implement. Anyone can do it wherever they are. They don’t need special tools or practices. They just need to remember (ignite the Light of LOVE and take action).

I find your request for 10 words to be harsh – as no one else has been asked to limit their response. However the request is worthy. Can I do it in 10 words so that someone could easily understand and remember? The centre/center is: the peace of being present and absorbed in the moment. That which I am is revealed.

I’m just trying to do my part while I’m here – and save myself. Returning to “center” (a positive state/place in body/mind/heart) is part of my practice. Mantra, song, dance, art, nature are all tools.
@VP/Gary: RE: LOVE. So does that include the “dehumanizers” too? Should we just think *GOOD* thoughts, pretending THEY don’t exist with ALL their cheat cards? No. No pretending. It’s hard to LOVE the haters/dehumanizers. I’m not there yet. You?
I had a decent shot trying with my late husband. I couldn’t resist the brilliant engineer, handsome/older, bad-boy man. But it was always the undercurrent of childhood abuse and 2 tours in Vietnam that got him rolling from a dark place. In the 11 months of his dying at home (right here in the great room behind me, cancers everywhere) that I began to see the truth BEYOND his physical presence. You can LOVE that sweet light! There is this strange aspect to it tho, you know there is a part of themselves on auto-pilot (stuck in torture chambers of the mind), THEY CAN’T STOP. It’s like you see thru it and you are watching a picture show. Detached. These words come to mind: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” This is not meant to be an excuse. It just is where some people are. You can forgive them, love them, let go of them, and keep your power.
