It might but who cares? Are you seeking? Confirming? I currently know 5 peeps with sars-cov-2. ALL are double vaxxed. One is a doctor at a high fallutin’ medical research facility. I have heard from 3 that they *think* the vaccine has diminished the symptoms of the virus. Confirmation bias much? How could you possibly know when 98%( per Dr. D) experience only mild symptoms?

If you are studying or teaching a completely worthless subject- e.g. alchemy or necromancy- it is foolish to hope. You’d be better off if you despaired of every actually turning lead into gold and got a job delivering pizzas instead.German philosophy was like alchemy or necromancy. Anyone obliged to go in for that garbage, merely to get some sort of credential, needed to tell everybody to give up on hope, faith and charity.
Obviously, if you were fortunate enough to emigrate to America then you could yourself quite cheerfully cash the cheques sent to you by highbrow journals for bleakly illiterate, brutally argued, articles.
Anglo-Saxon empiricism decided quite quickly that philosophy was for fools. Mathematicians could be useful but their political views were likely to be paranoid. The only thing that mattered was the ‘reverse game theory’ of mechanism design- i.e. getting the incentive mix right and maintaining effective checks and balances. Germany- embracing ‘phenomenology’ or ‘dialectical’ misology- almost brought back the Dark Ages.
The author of this essay mentions a Pole who suffered in a Soviet Gulag and then a German concentration camp. Instead of legging it for the West, the guy stayed on in Poland and thus felt he had to gas himself. This has nothing to do with hope or faith. It has to do with showing less sense than a sheep which crosses over to where the grass is greener.
Arendt, by her personal example, showed that even a former mistress of Heidegger could have as much intelligence as a sheep or a goat. Her writing may be execrable but she got paid for it. This should give us hope. Even if we have advanced degrees in nonsense, or have been the victims of incessant epistemic self-abuse, there is always the possibility that we can turn our backs on that foolishness and get jobs driving trucks or being useful to society in some other way.
It may be that many who died in concentration camps had religious faith. It may also be that they received no heavenly reward. Yet, the fact that they did no evil gives us cause for hope for our species and the planet it increasingly controls.
So long as we get ‘mechanism design’ right, we can keep the lights on. But what this utilitarian light shows is that much soi disant scholarship is nothing but systematic stupidity whereas the guy driving the truck or delivering the pizza is contributing to a broadening, deepening, Englightenment. A ‘bildungsburgertum’ can really screw up a country. It is far better that those with ‘skin in the game’ ensure that there are effective checks and balances so that social choice mechanisms are robust and regret-minimizing. This means that the Academy must serve the Middle Class and reinforce such uncorrelated asymmetries as militate for ‘bourgeoise strategies’. Where the reverse happens and the Academy seeks a vanguard role, the lights swiftly go out. I hope young people will reject shoddy thinkers like Arendt and Weil and Strauss. They were not greatly respected in their own day and the availability cascades built around them have all proven mischievous.

My wife nursed for our small town family practice doctor for many years. With the onset of electronic medical records and the whole health insurance administrative top load his business model started to come under duress. He succumbed to a buyout offer from Dignity health. Must have been a good one as from my point of view his lifestyle and personal asset improvement was substantial (to be fair that is only my observation). My wife and he remain friends today. One morning a couple months ago I rode my bike to work. My wife informed me it was doc’s birthday, ” why don’t you swing buy and say hi and happy birthday and check out his new Tesla”. I took the short detour and sure enough he was up early and fiddling in the garage. New Tesla in the driveway. I heartily greeted him and the FIRST thing he said to me was “are you vaccinated yet —- ?” I was taken aback and kind of hurt, there was no,” how have you been what a beautiful day?” In my face and very disturbing as I have known him for many years and he was my go to guy when I have broken or torn myself. I gave him my position and some of the science I became aware of thru TAE any many other sources. I read a lot and not only TAE. Science I have investigated and validated or invalidated thru many hours of research on reputable peer reviewed medical journals. He came to the part of his ‘speil’ when he started to bang on the stupidity of the ‘horse dewormer’ as a remedy. I tried to convince him that it was only the little people trying to end run around the clampdown on IVM and to actually take some control of their OWN health situation. He would not consider it, They were misinformed and buying into conspiracy theories and gullible conservative Trumpers. Wow! I was shocked! So I told him about your ( Dr. Day’s) experience at your clinic and the success of your treatment protocol for the last many months. He replied with a puff of breath and , ” well that is JUST anecdotal”. See above quote.
As I rode off he had the gall to tell me he loved me after he dissed everything I had tried to express in our 20 minute *conversation*. I was depressed( and maybe a little angry too) about it for more than a few days.
So when I saw the article above and the ‘anecdotes’ quote I thought of you. Adapt, create and endure as the old shoemaker used to say. Ivan Illich warned us of all this BS many years ago. I still strongly suggest reading “Tools for Convivality” as he delivers a very good way to deal with the manifested future he predicted.
Through some crazy serendipitous coincidence I happen to know a VERY high up administrator for Kaiser Permanente. He is a doctor of medicine. He happens to sit on the board of directors for a VERY large pharmaceutical company( wink wink) I have know him for over 50 years. I had a long discussion with him a month or so ago. It started EXACTLY like the conversation I described above. Ended on a more amicable and respectful note and he told me he would give me a hug if I held my breath…We did.

One of the great evils of media is the pernicious way in which it promotes the expert/laymen divide to the normie. Firstly, it characterizes expert opinion as homogenous, which it rarely if ever is.Secondly, it encourages him to surrender organic reason.
If he is encouraged to view his reasoning criteria as inadequate, by what other faculty does he have confidence in the experts he selects to inform his worldview?
The world is complex, error is costly, but by recommending he view the consequences of error in stark moral terms, he is robbed of the recognition that error is a precondition to knowledge.
By shifting the issue to the moral plane, he is encouraged to select those authorities that flatter him as virtuous, and his confidence in them becomes an expression of his narcissism.
He is alienated from his own capacity for reason, and the more his self-image is invested in adherence to popular consensus, the more likely he is to remain compliant, defaulting to that view which minimizes cognitive dissonance, the strain of thought.

We see what we look at. The majority on TAE spend massive amounts of mental energy looking at what is wrong. Why it is wrong. Looking for a remedy. I myself included.
Just related to the SARS Cov-2 dilemma why are *we* not looking at the vast majority who have not and do not get sick? Who did not get sick for the 9-10 months before the vaccine rollout? What do they have, are doing….. what is the difference?
There is another side to every other area(?) where things are ‘wrong’…… finance, education, food production and distribution on and on.
I have been all over the western US in the last 18 months. My sense is that people are good, the vast majority healthy and active, open and intelligent , regardless of political affiliation.
We see what we look at.
I’m still hurt from what I felt to be a betrayal by the impersonator @madamski. But I have continued to read none the less. I find myself too often *only* coming here to confirm my bias. There are some very smart people here…..including @deflationista.

Years ago I found my self in a seedy little bar in Tacoma Washington. Me and my pal had seated ourselves in a booth with our back against the wall so as to see the dynamic interactions of the patrons, I’m joking, more for security than anything. Anyway, two gals came in and took up a booth on the other side of the floor. After a while everyone in the bar realized that they were either lesbians or liked each other a whole bunch. They were cuddling and petting and some very passionate full open mouth kissing. Right there in front of all of us. We were all trying to sneak a look now and then as not to interfere in their fun. Except for one big bad ass biker dude at the bar. He just swiveled his stool around and watched the show, sipping his beer, laughing and shaking his head. The more dominant one of the gals took notice and said something like, “what are you looking at yah big palooka”. He just smile and continued to look. She came over and got in his face, yelling a bunch of stuff that was probably correct about his behavior. He took it for a minute or so, saying nothing. Looking back I think she misinterpreted his passivity as an advantage. He turned back to the bar, set down his beer and smoothly spun his stool around and clocked her square on the jaw. She flew back about six feet landed on her back out cold. He calmly got up walked over and gave her one more pound square on the nose from the standing position and the blood started spurting. Flattened that pretty little nose right into her face. A lot of gasping going on in the bar and then silence and crying from her very beautiful friend. Took her away in the amby. Nobody was willing to take on the biker dude so he just kept drinking.
Not sure why that memory surfaced just now? Hmmmmm. Recounting that story always makes me think of the old aphorism about ‘might makes right’ and the idea that it is a fallacy. Our old pal Winston Smith might have something to add in the larger social context I would bet. If he survived that rat in the face that is.

Does anyone know if there is a functional difference between the alpha and the delta versions of the virus and what it is or does differently? Not sure if I’m stating that correctly but something I have been thinking about.
